Bees in Flight!
This past July, four of the Asali Bees had the privilege of spending an amazing month in Tanzania! The trip (paid for out of pocket and not with Asali funds) was a perfect mix of work and play, as the Bees went on safari, spent time at a beloved children’s village, worked hard with our Asali and Simba’s staff to evaluate programs and make plans for the upcoming year, and ended with a quick weekend in Zanzibar. Along the way, we fell even more in love with the stunning country of Tanzania and its lovely people. The trip was perfection, and here are some highlights:
We renovated the Asali Library at Simba’s Footprints, complete with a mural, new furniture, new books, and an organization system (thanks to a new friend/volunteer!)
We visited several Asali programs, including English classes, music lessons, and the local clinic where our students get their checkups as part of our health care pilot program.
We had a team meeting with the Simba’s staff in order to evaluate our programs and make improvements for the future.
We took about thirty deserving students from our participating local schools on a field trip to beautiful waterfalls not far from Moshi.
Finally, we spent a couple of days on the gorgeous beaches of Zanzibar, reflecting on our incredible trip and dreaming of future possibilities in this country that we’ve all come to love.
