Partnering with Simba's Footprints!
We have been busy at Asali over the past few months! Let us fill you in...
Since our founding at the end of September, our team has filed for incorporation and applied for 501c3 status. We have formed our first partnership with an amazing grassroots nonprofit in Tanzania called Simba’s Footprints. And we have sent one of our founders, Margot Hinchey, over to Tanzania to work hand-in-hand with Simba’s to develop Asali’s programs there.
Simba’s Footprints is an organization that seeks to reach the youth in the community of Moshi, Tanzania. As a community center, Simba’s strives to provide a safe place where the local children can learn, play, and grow. Simba's Footprints was founded by two women one from Sweden and one from Switzerland in 2011 and is managed by local Tanzanians. Simba's is constantly adapting to the current needs of the children it serves.
In partnership with Simba’s Footprints, we at Asali are building and filling a library for the children to use. We have gathered donations from many generous teachers and friends so that the library will be stocked with educational resources, picture books, and novels: all things that are difficult to find in Moshi. Our hope is that the children and teachers alike will benefit from the resources that will be readily available to them through our library! Access to literature is a great predictor of academic success; we want to give our children in Moshi every advantage possible as they pursue their academic goals in the rigorous Tanzanian education system.
Asali supports Simba’s Footprints education initiative by providing the annual salary for the English club teacher. Teacher Charles and Teacher Dina have been an integral part in the success of the English club, and we look forward to continuing to work with them to develop an extensive, engaging English program for our students.
Asali believes in the arts as an incredible resource for personal growth and community development. Therefore, we are currently building a recording studio where the local kids can come to learn about music, take lessons and explore different instruments, and eventually record some great music!

Love and honey,
